calgary hospitals

so I know Taber has its down sides. The whole town smelling like beets, four way stop on every corner, cops that give you tickets just for reving your engine and only one nice sit down resturaunt and the food isn't great. But what we do have... well for the most part is a good hospital. I'm not sure I want to have a baby in calgary. I've been in the labor ward and have watched countless different nurses "attend" to our girls and send them home in labor, only to have them ambulanced back to the hospital when a bed in available. Tonight I was at two different hospitals with different babies with serious sickness. At one hospital there wasn't even enough sitting room for us to sit down in the waiting room forcing us to stand for hours. THen at the children's hospital emergency room (higher end nice hospital) we stood in a long line with countless other children and parents all the way to door, kids puking everywhere. No seats, just babies crying and puking. I thought I was in some third world country. Hours till the kids were checked out. It would have made more sense if gas wasn't an issue to drive to Taber or some other small town and get checked out and then come home. I know this rant isn't very positive its just been a long night. I'm sleeping at Elizabeth House tonight and just waiting for someone to knock at my door to send me on another trip to witness our fabulous health care system at work.

ashley assertive

So as I was shelving books at cp, I started talking to this new guy Sean, asking him how he likes CP and if he is figuring stuff out. (He started two weeks ago) We carry on our converstation and he comments that he is glad we make more than mcdonalds. I laugh and say no, no we don't. We make mininum wage... 7 big ones per hour. He then assures me that I am wrong since he makes $7.50 per hour. I dismiss the idea and think he must be wrong, he's only been here two weeks. Later I talked to a couple other new people. Same thing, 7.50. I started over a year ago and I make 7.00!!!! NO raises, reviews, or anything, just bare minimum wage...
So suffice it to say my frustration got the most of me and I confronted my boss. Saying it wasn't fair, saying I am worth more than 7 per hour and gently demanding a raise. SUccess!!! Still not making tons but I feel a little better standing up for myself with this job. My other group home job (preg centre) I am making 1400 a month to work 2 weekends! So things are good and I feel a little better about cp, just angry that my boss was trying to pull one over on me. There is a reason I want to be a homemaker...

January never ends....

This January has been insane. I have been exposed to more babies in one month than I have dealt with in my life. Pick me up, feed me, change me, put me on my stomach, hold me, don't hold me, and that was only Kev.... :) No life at Elizabeth House is intense. Imagine with me. Your in a creepy 4 story drafty house with seven teenage moms and there babies at the same time. Poor babies with ratty toys and no money and birth defects. I have been thrown up on numerous times and I am getting used to changing my shirt during the day. I have one teen who is overdue and may go into labor on my watch and it's scary, cause I have to take her to the hospital. We've had beat up girls, some who have been living on the street for months, no social skills, no boyfriends, no family and no hope. All their food is donated by the food bank, so it's often expired when the girls And me are eating it. It breaks your heart to be there...
On the plus side I'm getting to know how to parent, often taking care of 4, 3 month olds at a time. One baby in one arm and one on the knee. Kev has assured me that even though I often come home ranting about how much I hate my "job" that there is value in it. Right now I'm scheduled 217 hours/month at Elizabeth House and I'm still trying to hold my job at cp. I really hate RMC's 600 hr practicum garbage because it is so exhausting!
But rewarding...
In other news the girls had some Myntie fun on Friday night. Clubbing is definitely a once a year or twice a year kind of thing. Super fun, but super hard to get up this morning.
Also I still need to know about the cabin thing. Some people have paid and some haven't I just want some confirmation about it k?
Thanks peace out

Woodbury

So the time is drawing closer. I just need to know who is 100% in for Woodbury.
The dates are July 19th to July 23rd. 5 nights. The cost 75/ person or 150 per couple.
amazingly cheap considering it was 25/ person for one night at the hotel.
So for food each couple is responsible for 1 day of food for everyone. That's all they
have to bring. There is all the cooking stuff already at the cabins. 10 people.
You just have to pay me by Jan 31st. Cheques or cash work. If still thinking about it,
refer to nov 19 blog. I think it will be a lot of fun and I hope you all can come. :)
